Dave;

But £24 is a lot cheaper than $85... all the same, good on Twisty for checking out and fixing, a substitute. I'd even go so far as suggesting that we buy him a beer at Cadwell (the annual MRC track day) if we get there!

Thanks, Twisty :D

Hi All,

Despite the cost of the filter (£4.00 is the Vat Chris) the service still came out reasonable. Compared with many other bikes Morini's still come way down the the league table when it comes to servicing cost. We all know that good design saves time and time is the killer when you are paying someone else to do your spanner work. Anyway the bike passed with flying colours.

Regards

Yes it is....doesnt alter the fact that a similar filter for most other bikes costs less than a fiver though...I don't blame NLM (or any other dealers) for this...I have tried negotiating a bulk sale from the UK importers and even they cannot get hold of this filter (UFI - reference number 25.608.00)..something to do with contractual obligations to Morini..

What I cant get my head round is that if Morini no longer 'exists' then why can't UFI supply em to the importers directly...theres a scam here somewhere... :mrgreen:

Hi Dave;

I can understand the point, but overall the bikes seems to be pretty reasonable in cost terms to run. (We could moan about fuel economy and other things, but hey, just think of the fun of riding them).

I don't pretend to understand Italian financial law (let alone practice) but my understanding is that Morini is auctioned in early April. Before then the company still exists in its current form - which means that in theory all of the supplier contracts stand as drafted. It's just a pity that the suppliers weren't a bit more focussed on supplying bits to enable the Factory to make (and sell) complete bikes!

We'll see what happens after April.

Hmmmm!! :? So is this where we are now? -- If paper filters are available, our only reason to chase up the custom made filter option is to get better value for money, not to ensure availability. So it all depends on an individual's:
1. Miles per year
2. Likely time to keep the bike
3. Perception of possible (though unlikely) risk using custom item.
4. Dislike of rip-off paper filter prices.

That sounds like a personal calculation and decision. What are people's thoughts? :|

there is an article in the benelli forum regarding a scott oil filter collapsing due to a build up of debris .

so hang fire until you read the forum

seems customer service was crap

it was an old post by "engenia"

Of particular reference was that cleaning in fuel was not removing the oil sludge debris and over time and miles basically the filter tried to collapse on itself as it became clogged.
Seems the best way to clean the filter was ultrasonic cleaning.

Certainly puts a new twist on the matter

Would these Scott filters fit the Granpasso? 3X were not able to replace my filter at the last service, so I need to sort out my own solution. I'd be happy to pay a bit more for the better quality, provided it will do the job.

Having got one of each of these beasts I can tell you that the Benelli engine contaminates oil very quickly...I would not be put off by the horror story although Erroll (engenia) is one of the most technically capable people I have ever come accross on any forum...

An ultrasonic cleaner is affordable nowadays - Gunson do one I believe.

As regards the Granpaso, I don't see why the filters would be any different, although I'm at a loss to know why 3X had not got a filter unless it was a few months ago when everyone was waiting for new stock... I know i bought the last available one of the old batch from NLM....

Rob at NLM now tells me there are plenty in stock, but they aint cheap !!

Have now read the post re Scott oil filter failure. It had collapsed by the 6th removal and cleaning, although it is not clear what sort of mileage that represents. Even if you only used it for 4 oil changes before getting it professionally cleaned, it still works out cheaper than getting the normal filters, which I currently can't get, so.......I will definitely buy one. Is anybody coordinating this?

Nlm and 3x have filters, at £19.99 plus vat and postage and £27.95 plus postage respectively. The Scott filter still looks attractive.

It's a bloody scandalous price a - jap equivalent would be about three quid...unfortunately it's unique. We should all buy the Scotts and an Ultrasonic cleaner and leave em with a shedload of unsued stock... !!! :lol:

Actually I disagree. Yes the filters are expensive (perhaps unfairly so) BUT it is now, more than ever that we should be supporting the dealers and importer. If the factory is ever to make a comeback then it will need the support of the current dealers. If those dealers lose interest because existing owners turn their backs on them now then where will that leave us in 5 years time? Equally, if a stash of parts becomes available from MM or one of their suppliers, why would a dealer invest in that if they have a pile of consumables on the shelf they can't even flog.

I for one LOVE my corsaro and I want to be riding it in 5, 10 years time. That's not likely to happen unless we can ensure a supply of the Morini specific parts, and if that means having to fork out a few quid extra for parts I could source elsewhere then I'm happy to do so. Look at it another way- yes you can get a filter which may fit (I'll make no comment as to it's suitability) BUT you will not get a replacement ECU or speedo or cylinder head in the future unless some sort of genuine MM Spares production exists.
