Suitable Clothing

As a Strada owner I am posting in this section, even though the topic is of general application. We all like to wear leathers (OK most of us) but we usually encounter rain at some stage of every ride (or at least I seem to) and carrying and changing into waterproofs is a bind. So can anyone recommend any make and model of waterproof clothing which also has the qualities of leather, i.e. some accident protection, can be worn over T shirt and shorts and is close fitting? As a non leathers rider I've always worn textile type clothing. Most has or can be fitted with protectors. Draggin Jeans and Hood Jeans are lined with Kevlar and I know the Hood Jeans can be fitted with knee & hip protectors although they are not neccesarily waterproof. It seems to me that the range of this type of clothing is at least as big as the range of leathers on the market. Maybe a trip to Hein Gericke or somewhere similar is called for?

I use Peter Storm overjackets and trousers from Millets. They pack down pretty small and can be worn over most types of riding gear.

A friend of mine has a set of the highly expensive waterproof leathers and reckons they are brilliant.

As close to waterproof as a suit gets. Leather like protection. Huge number of vents; can be warm in winter and cool in summer. The coolest thing is you can get in and out of it in seconds - great for hot summer days when you want to be in shorts when you're off the bike.

Really, the only drawback is price.

Thanks to you all for your suggestions. I am intrigued by the waterproof leathers, never having heard of such (note to self: must get out more). Redvee, do you happen to know what make of leathers your friend endorses and if he has had any problems, like maybe too hot in summer or lengthy drying out and redressing when saturated? Thanks again.

Try looking up Halvarssons, lindstrands and Jofama. They are Swedish, they do waterproof leathers and textile clothing apparently used by police riders.
