Trip to Pecos Mountins and leaking head gasket

Post by Tim Coles »

Hi

Took my Veloce for a couple of weeks touring the Picos mountains in north west Spain and down to Portugal. I must say the bike was awsome especially in the tight mountain roads my buddies on their sports bikes (R1 + ZX10) were struggling where as the Veloce was flick into the bend and punch out the other side on a wave of torque. Only problem was it developed an oil leak from the rear cylinder luckily not too serious as it pooled between the cylinders and was manageable. When I got back the bike was due its 10k service so took it to 3X who did the head gasket under warranty but the service was £290. This seems bloody expensive to me but I guess thats part and parcel of owning Italan. My bkes a 57reg and has the Sachs rear shock this is the only weak part, I managed to get it set up ok but the bike still had a tendancy to pogo. Was wondering if anyone has had their rear shock revalved or is it worth biting the bullet and buying an aftermarket shock? I'm a bit of a ard arse so a heavyer spring and re-valve might fix it for me, front end is spot on an was confidence inspiring. As for touring I used an Oxford expanding rear bag about 40 litres fully expanded carried all I needed for 2 weeks and didn't notice it when riding. Now winter is here yhe bike is getting the full termigoni front pipes, PCIII and custom map package and a bit of cosmetic terting up. I'm also going to change the brake master cylinders for the 09 ones as they give more feel. One last thing does anyone know of an aftermarket induction kit I've trie Pipper cross, BMC etc no luck so any hel welcome.

Stay safe

The standard filter is a BMC one.

I've a set of pazzo levers for the later brake m/c if you're interested and spare carbon frame inserts.
