Dart 400 Brake Calipers - repair kits?

Post by Pfeil_400 »

Dear Morini community,
the restoration of my 1993 Moto Morini Dart 400 is progressing well. I am now looking for repair kits for the brake calipers, but unfortunately I cannot find them anywhere.

• The front brake caliper is a double-piston floating caliper with a 28 mm piston diameter and is labelled Brembo 8F 23

• The rear brake caliper is a fixed caliper with two pistons (one on each side), a piston diameter of 32 mm and is labelled Brembo 8G 20

Can you help me find repair kits?

Many thanks in advance and best regards,

Hi Matthias,

I’ve not needed to rebuild mine as I was lucky enough to find a new old stock calipers at the novegro jumble a few years ago.

Our brakes are the same as Cagiva freccia C12 so you may have luck finding them through that route.

This overhaul kit looks to be correct for the front I think.

The front caliper should have a nylon sleeve on which it slides. Often they are damaged or missing. See my post elsewhere on this forum about that:

Ahhh, again Tom knows everything :D
Thank you, I ordered the parts.
So far no problems visible on my caliper mounts, I`ll doublecheck.
Warm Regards

No problem!

Also, I had to check my records at home but a while ago I bought a new rear caliper for my dart from a guzzi dealer.

Brembo P5 left hand side front as fitted to the front left hand side of a guzzi V35 V50 V65 V75 etc is the same as a dart rear.

You should easily be able to find an overhaul kit with this info I think.

If the rear master cylinder gives trouble then I never found a seal kit or replacement (there must be one) however I fitted what at the time was cheap and easily available new- a rear master cylinder from a guzzi sport/daytona/V11 sport/breva 750/quota - sorry I don’t have a Brembo part number. The hole spacing is slightly narrower than the dart so you need to mount with one bolt and make up an adaptor plate for the other but has been on my bike working fine for 20 years now!

Dear Tom,
Yes, that's right, I found that out too. The rear brake caliper on the Dart was also used on many other motorcycle models (=> see picture, list incomplete). The Brembo repair kit has the number 39659000-Z.
