Gentlemen / ladies,
Apologies for the ongoing chain of queries in the Strada recommissioning challenge. I had the bike together and running weekend before last, and took it for a shakedown spin round the local area. Got a little bit overconfident and went further than I should until (probably not entirely unforeseeable since it was the first proper shake-down run). To cut a long story short - zero spark.
After a couple of false starts, I believe I've narrowed the problem down to a fault on the feed to the coils. The bike has been fitted with the NLM transducer, and a set of two coils which don't seem to have any identifying marks on them.
The wiring connection to the coils and between the coils and transducers seems to tie up perfectly with the tech info about the kit in the members tech area on here. The problem I have is that the circuitry before that doesn't tie up with any of there wiring diagrams I've been able to find so far.
The +ve feed to the coil is a black wire for example, which disappears back into a larger bundle that heads back towards the fuesebox, but I'm struggling to figure out how the rest of the loom prior to that is supposed to look.
The bike was originally an Italian market 1978 model Strada with electric start. The only 350 electric start wiring diagram I have been able to find so far is the one in the technical area here - but I can't tie what's on the bike to it especially around the inputs to the coil-transducer components.
Would anybody be able to point me to any other wiring diagrams which might be closer to what's on the bike ?

I have sent you a Private Message about the wiring diagram and NLM transducers.
Re: Wiring help - NLM Transducer kit with coils
I got that Jon - and replied to you.
Many thanks, appreciated.

Re: Wiring help - NLM Transducer kit with coils
A slightly delayed update on this - but finally got to the bottom of the no-spark issue, with more than a little help from the kind and infinitely patient JonD of this parish.
Turned out not only was I using the wrong wiring diagrams, I also had completely misinterpreted how the OEM 3 1/2 ignition system works. In my (admittedly weak) defence, I was given a bit of a bum steer at the outset by a local auto electrician who advised the as there was no spark at the ignition coils I should start there and work back..and it was a downhill spiral from there really
After many daft questions to Jon, the veil began to lift, and I finally figured out the how things were supposed to work - and equally importantly, why they weren't working now.
I now know for sure the little ignition coil on the stator is faulty and shorting to earth. It has clearly been bodged before, so am assuming it worked after a fashion for a while, but the combination of more revs, heat and vibration on the shakedown run was just too much for it, and it calved.
Luckily enough, managed to find a nice chap on this side of the water who is willing and able to rewind it to factory spec. Will report back on how that goes, as I gather coil-winders seem about as plentiful as wheel-tappers and shunters these days.
Between the hassles with trying to test the coil, and wiring in a replacement Camino spec 6-pole ignition switch, I'm hoping I haven't inadvertently managed to send 12V into the transducer boxes at some point along the way. Could well have happened, but time will tell. Fingers crossed and wish me luck on that front.

Glad you've got that sussed out and hope the CDI's aren't damaged. The later models had a diode built into the harness to prevent battery voltage being sent down the green lead. It's easy to add one in yourself if not already there.

Re: Wiring help - NLM Transducer kit with coils
Hey Steve.
Just checked, and my bike has a little diode mounted in line in the green wire from the ignition coil that goes in and out of the fusebox/terminal block. Im not really au-fait with the electrical and electronics side of thing, but after a quick look at the circuit diagrams, I imagine if I've managed to feed a 12V live input anywhere between the diode and the CDI box it won't be able to save me - but anywhere on the other side of it, it'll help.
If it improves my odds by 50% or so - I won't complain

Re: Wiring help - NLM Transducer kit with coils
Is there an original Morini pick up or a NLM one?
There are 2 NLM CDI units and coils available from the club (via me) no guarantees and they are in the pile of items we have not yet auctioned. Offers considered by PRIVATE E MAIL to me or club Chairman Tom
Standard set up far better in my view
