Hi Ross,
I know they'll be equally hens teeth for you, but rearsets make a huge difference to real world comfort with a Sport.
Of course, you would also need a different kickstart as well, but if you do that the Sport becomes a really comfortable bike, seriously capable of 500km+ journeys.
Regards,
George

Hi George,
It has Tarozzi rearsets on it. Once over about 80 kph, I agree.
Cheers.

Got it licenced yesterday. Runs really well except a slight oil weep from the front head base gasket. Might try retensioning the head bolts. It also dosn`t idle quite as reliably as I would like. Going to look at the choke o rings as sometimes the choke raises the idle, other times not. Ive checked rocker gaps etc.
A few guys at the weekly classic get together yesterday said I should repaint the tank and side panels and polish the rims and engine side covers. I was going to just leave it unrestored, but I`m not sure now.
I already have new badges in case I get it painted.
What do you guys think ?

Hi Ross,
As for cleaning/repainting, I guess it comes down to what 'floats your boat'. Also depends on how often you would like to ride it. Here in the UK, I tried the 'as good as new' thing once and then did very few rides on it as I didn't want to get it dirty. Then once it did I felt I could use it properly again.
The other thing you have to watch is once you get the tank and panels done, the frame will look poor, Polish the rims and the spokes will look poor etc. Then the decisions become when do I stop and how much do I want to spend.
As it stands, it really is up to you - it's your bike. Does the chipped paint record its history? Is the 50 year old patina important to you or not? How much time do you want to spend doing all the work?
Decisions, decisions!
Whatever way you go, make sure that you enjoy it.
Regards, George

Polish the cases by all means but in terms of the paint, "it's only original once" (presuming that is the original Bologna paint?)

Honest patinated bikes are increasingly worth more than overtarted restorations and the Drumbrake Sport is the one "everyone wants"

Is that a solderless nipple on the clutch cable? Anyway a rubber boot over it is nice. Can be e.g. a HT coil boot.
Main thing is to get it running as you want and be certain that the fuel tank is sound. I always clean them out and line them with a POR15 kit here in UK.
I have only ridden a drum brake Morini for a few days. I found one had to just feather it when damp or it was a bit grabby. Fine thereafter though.
Anyway good to have a Morini again.
