Anyone recognise this?? New to Morini.
Anyone recognise this?? New to Morini.
I’m putting this ‘thing’ together that looks like a track bike project half finished. It came with a job lot of Morini bikes a great friend of mine acquired, that aren’t in the best of condition. I’m making a road bike of it. It came with a silver painted tank & black sport seat.
It seems to be a 350 K frame & bottom end but the barrels look camel?? It has 28mm mk2 concentrics on too. Just what have I got here??

Excaliburs have those barrels too, the spaces left out are for silencing rubbers, judging by the number of fins it's a 350 (12 as 500-501's have 14, head and cilinder together)

Could be gilardoni cylinders?
Generator rotor not from an electric start model unless someone has removed the ring.

Yes Gilardoni's, rotor is from an early 350, you can't mix this with a later alternatorMickeyMoto wrote: ↑06 Dec 2023 20:52 Could be gilardoni cylinders?

Re: Anyone recognise this?? New to Morini.
I can confirm Gailardoni barrels. The frame no has a K in front of it. There are 6 gears found. I’ve been told it’s a 500 but if it is, it’s some kind of big bore kit as the frame & engine numbers match. (Bit of a surprise). Oversize carbs if it’s a350 top end.
Anyway, thanks for the replies. Keep them coming. It has sparks, so I’m on my way. Here’s a couple of shots from a week or so back.
Looks like a non standard rear hub. It’s giving me a headache finding a spot to stop the brake cable outer end to. I’ve got a bracket on development that bolts to the lower shock mount. The torque arm I see is fixed to the swinging arm so it should all stay in the same place as it arcs up & down.

Re: Anyone recognise this?? New to Morini.
Nothing adds up. If it has a K frame then it should have electric start. The engine casing suggests otherwise. The K had more rear set pegs with a linkage to the gear lever.
Does it actually have a generator (2 yellow wires)? If it was a racer it might just have a magneto coil for the ignition under the rotor.
Rear mudguard does not look standard nor the alloy wheels.
On the left hand side of the engine low down there should be an engine identifier.

There is a heavily tuned 350 here in Italy with 500 barrels that's 498 cc (so I am told), so maybe it is a 500. Did you check the cam timing, maybe there's a nice surprise in there too
Re: Anyone recognise this?? New to Morini.
Well chaps I’ll go look for the engine identifier. The alternator still has generator wires in the lead & their resistances are kind of what I’d expect to see.
As for the rolling chassis, I’m sticking on what I’ve got lying about spare. I don’t see any value in hunting for original parts for this machine, it’s too far modified to be worth it. I’d just rather get it to riding condition & enjoy it. I’m not that bothered with the mechanicals of the engine as long as they work. I’ll cross any identifier’s there as I need to unless there’s some easy visual stuff you guys can suggest. The carbs I’ll sort no probs but I’ll need to sort the cables better. I’ll fabricate stuff, including a wiring loom to suit the power requirement's of the lights I’ll put on.

it's probably fun to ride without all non-essential parts left off, I wouldn't worry about originality either in this case
