speedo cable replacement
Venhill cables have said they don't do an off the shelf replacement. Wondering where everybody are getting theirs at the moment. Notice they do various ones to fit Vaglia clocks
but wouldn't know about the hub end. They offer a custom made one if I send them the old one but at £37 I was hoping for a cheaper option. Thanks in advance

Re: speedo cable replacement
I got one made up by them (for a 250 but same fitting I think) by filling in their custom form (plus a few dimensions) and including pictures of both ends (because I did not want to send the old cable). They quoted £37 but actually charged £31.46 inc. P&P. It seems OK but the ferrule at the instrument end is straight instead of angled which is not as good. I didn't find any cheaper ones but there may well be some.

Re: speedo cable replacement
Thanks for that - good to know as there would be expense involved in sending it to them
Re: speedo cable replacement
I have bought one in the past from NLM, might be worth asking Mdina italia.

Yes - was wondering about that - waiting for tomorrow (tuesday - Thursday for inquiries)pedro wrote:I have bought one in the past from NLM, might be worth asking Mdina italia.
I'll try giving them a ring - Thanks
Re: speedo cable replacement
Maybe worth giving Carrot Cycles a call-as they now say they can make just about any speedo/tacho cable. I've used them for Ariete petrol tubing a few times.

They are the same as a Guzzi V50 and that is what NLM sold in the 1990s and I bought just the V50 inner cable when mine broke.
Re: speedo cable replacement
speedo cable is the one for the front wheel or for the camshaft?

Re: speedo cable replacement
That's correct Norbert. It's an odd thing in English German translation that what we call the speedo you call the tachometer. What you call a drehzahlmesser is called a rev counter or tachometer here!norbert wrote:speedo cable is the one for the front wheel or for the camshaft?

Re: speedo cable replacement
Just want to say, I have removed my speedo cable and the end into the drive at the wheel has rusted off and broken inside the gear. I was wondering about getting a cable and saw this reply .pistonslap wrote:Just been on their website - they look great3potjohn wrote:Maybe worth giving Carrot Cycles a call-as they now say they can make just about any speedo/tacho cable. Been on the Carrot website and will be ordering a new inner cable .
Thanks so much for the help.

Re: speedo cable replacement
Also most places don't do that inbuilt curved bit of steel at the top of the cable outer, that helps the cable miss the headlight and it's support bracket. If anyone finds somewhere that does build that into the cable we would be interested to know. Of course you can just bend the cable instead, but it isn't as neat, unless maybe you stick a couple of washers between the headlight and the headlight bracket to give the cable a bit more room to bend.
Also, at the bottom of the cable the threaded collar has to be detachable or you won't be able to route the cable through the guide slot in the mudguard stay.
