Well, that was interesting. one of the fork stanchions came out of the lower leg without undoing the nut at the bottom! The circlip is missing! Five jobs to do then clean up time for the cycle parts.

Remove other fork lower.
Remove centre stand bump stop rubbers from frame.
Remove starter motor bearing from side casing.
Remove broken bolt from bottom yoke.
Remove snapped bolt from switchgear and remove from clipon.

Simples!

The damper circlip fell out of the fork leg!

All apart, but the frame is really greasy. Hopefully have it done tomorrow. Needs to be grease free for the best painting experience.

On with the engine next week.

Nah, safely nestling in cardboard boxes with new valve springs and stainless inlet valves to go with them.

Have you got down to a bare crank yet?

After a break for cold weather (20 minutes maximum) and Christmas, the crankcases came apart today. Spent another 20 minutes assembling all the piececs that fell out of the gearbox...

Interestingly, the output shaft bearing is a few balls short of a full house and has a strip missing off the ball retainer, but nowhere to be seen in the cases... A trip to the drain plug is the next step.

The cam has an S stamped on it.

Debating whether to remove the con rods as there is no up / downmovement.

btw - no centre gasket... lots of red Hermit Shite, though.

No copper washers on the internal bolts, cases are a bit dirty.

Also need to decide which barrels to use. I have new rings.

Onwards and downwards with the bank overdraft...

Very nice. Makes me want to do a full restor on my Camel. But then again, I just want to ride it !
