Returning member after 20 years, saying hello. 500 sport.

Post by Sicxtyone »

Hi everyone, took a bit of a gamble on a 1982 reg 500 six speed sport on eBay.
That was in August it's now on the road and going ok. Rear wheel bearings, chain and sprockets, tyres, tank liner, fork seals etc. I think the bike has had a hardish life.
I had a 350 Strada and 500 maestro, late 70s early 80s and sold the 350 after 19 yrs in 1997. Are MHA 646P and UOY 316X still out there!
I'm in Worthing on the south coast, if any members are in the area and would like to talk bikes etc, that would be great.

Regards to all

Graham.

Hello Graham,
Welcome to the forum, I am not to far from you in Uckfield, and there are several Morini’s in the area, so maybe we should all meet up when the weather improves a bit next year.
Regards Pete.

Hi Pete,
Thanks for making contact, that sounds like a plan. Yes four or five months of wintery stuff! Roll on the Spring.
Still gives a chance to do work on the bike as time allows. Just discovered today the headlamp reflector is parting company with its silvering.
Maybe a call to nlm or trawl the tinternet.
All the best
Graham.

Welcome back Graham. And don't leave it too long before calling NLM! Stuart is finally retiring and the business is moving to new hands.

Indeed. There seems to have been a bit of a rush by some people to stock up recently ;) , but the shelves were still reasonably well filled last Tuesday.

Thanks for the friendly welcome, have already done a decent NLM order and have another short list on the go!
On a technical note 12.7 volts at the battery but barely 9 volts at the headlamp, engine not running.
Any really obvious places to check or as I think is it a matter of check everything!
Thanks

I think the wiring is perfectly ok on a Morini. Having said that, the connections will probably have corrosion, and I do not like the fuse type used. Probably wise to take apart every connection and clean and electrical grease. Might be worth looking at the handlebar switch as well.

Ditto on the contacts. In the hifi world I also inhabit, it's good practice to do an annual unplugging to clean all contacts. There are products to help (Caig Deoxit) but that may be more use for inside applications.

When I asked NLM for wiring-harness parts they said they'd never had any demand as they are resilient. I'm finding now that my sub-looms around the steering-head are starting to fail (after 36 years' wiggling, mind) so I have a small project "looming".
