1981 125S - does it exist?

I've become the proud owner of a 1981 125cc Moto Morini.
The seller didn't have any background info and it was advertised as a 125S. I can't find any links to this model or if it actually exists?
The V5 arrived today, just says Moto Morini and 125cc. There is a chassis/frame no. but no engine no.
It was imported into U.K. In 1995.
Does anyone know where I can get a 'works manual' for it, I don't even know the gear sequence! (This is my first bike, I'm having a later-life crisis!)
The tick-over isn't good either, is this a common problem? Any advice much appreciated.

I don't think there is a model 'S' 125. May be an 'H'?

It's usual not to have an engine number, but there should be a letter stamped on the crankcase in amongst the fins at the bottom left hand side which identifies the model. I believe the same letter should appear in the frame number which will confirm the model.

Not too many 125 / 250 singles running around as you can probably tell from the number of posts on this forum (I have the 250T).

No doubt someone who actually has the 125 will reply with more definitive information. The Dutch Moto Morini Club website (www.motomoriniclub.nl) has some good information on the different models.

Hello and welcome. I think the 'Blue Book' covers the 125 (as well as most of the other models) and as it's based on the V twins, most of the mechanical stuff is similar.
Gears are 1 down and some more up (not sure how many on a 125), poor tick over could be down to a dirty carb / blocked jets if it's not been used for a while, check the filter on the fuel tap and the inside of the tank for rust. Also consider changing the cam-belt if you don't know when it was last done.

I've checked the engine markings and it's def a 125H.
Thanks for the links, big learning curve, didn't even know it had a cam-belt!

Lovely. Shiny, shiny! I don't think the 125H tank I'm going to be giving its final coat of Hammerite smooth red just now will look quite as good even from a distance.

I had to change the carburetor slide from a 40 to a 50 to cure the stumble coming off idle. Finally got it to run really nicely after owning it twice over a 12+ year period. Then sent it off to a new home!

I'd get the carburetor ultrasonically cleaned first and change the cambelt. Very simple bikes to work on. Quite a bit of stuff on my YouTube channel.

I've still got a spare 125H if anyone wants one.

There is a copy of the Blue Book in the MRC Members Area (available for paid up club members); unlike the version available from the German site, it's in English, which can be helpful if you're not a linguist!
