Black engine cases

Post by Gary D »

Hi all

I'm struggling with this question on the 500 forum, so please forgive my repeating my question again here:

Does anyone have some good advice about the best type of black finish to finish the engine cases with? I'd consider getting them plated if that gave the best longevity, but if anyone knows of a good coating or painting solution, I'd really appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks & cheers

http://www.vhtpaint.com/high-heat/vht-engine-enamel seems to be pretty good stuff, haven't used it myself but did use their exhaust paint... this is very good
I saw this is new in the product range: http://www.vhtpaint.com/motorsport/vht- ... case-paint, do not know anyone who used this yet

I have had a couple of cases powder coated with good results, these were outer cases and not subject to extreme heat, not sure about really high temperature use, although the finish is baked on so I can't see why not, I just don't have experience of it.

Gents

Many thanks for your replies. I think I'll leave the valve covers alone and just powder coat the 2 side cases.

In the US there are several companies that make super hard, high temperature coatings for gun collectors/builders. These are epoxy, oven cure, or often both, and tend to be very high quality. Ceracoat seems to be the highest end; Duracoat and KG are two others. KG has a page specifically on motor sports products:

Non of them are cheap, but they all are much higher quality than your typical spray paint.

Hi

Beautiful bike my friend! I like the idea of the enamel finish from a quality & longevity point of view. I do a lot of business around the Jewellery quarter in Birmingham, so there must be someone who can help there. I just need to sort a bit of a scuff in the LH case first.

Many thanks for taking the rouble to get in touch.

Best regards
