Crankcase went BANG!

Post by Daddy Dom »

Something major let go down below this week. Didn't stop the engine going even though I killed it immediately, it sounded like a motorboat. Just before the bang there was a rotational-type scraping sound and slight whine when changing up. I was just about to pull onto the harbour bridge at the time.

Good things: by that evening the bike was rescued and with the good Doctor John. I don't need it for a month as my work has finished, I'll be in the UK so can bring home parts, if needed. Who am I kidding, there will be parts needed.

So not the best end to the year for my wallet but the bike has just passed 37,000kms and deserved a break. Just not one that big or loud ...

Most unpleasant. Mine is off the road after making a noise but I stopped it at low speed.Sounds like a gearbox issue dou you think?
At least you have a new flag!

I confess I may use up the club's supplies of the "shamefaced" emoticon.

The large bang (which I always thought of more as a 'phut') was in fact the rear spark plug working loose. Something not overlooked in my regular maintenance programme but must have snuck by. Now I know why it sounded like a motorboat.

This all happened on the way to school on my last day of term two days before leaving the country so my fault-finding skills went as far as 'call the mechanic.'

My repair bill was far less than I'd anticipated, mainly repairing damage to the battery box, which is nice.
