oil pressure switch

Quick question, is it possible for oil to leak through the oil pressure switch? I have a small leak and am not sure if it's come from the tread or the switch so thought I'd ask before draining the oil.

ford escorts were always doing it , same thing car type switch , try a new fibre washer first, the one on mine weeps a bit out the centre onto the spade but not enough to bother changing it.

Yes,a common occurrence on oil pressure switches.at least it's not in an inaccessible place,eg bmw,where one dodge is to coat the new one in epoxy,to stop it leaking through the body of the switch.

You don't need to drain the oil to change the switch.

At the most you've got the crank oil gallery, plus the gallery in the outer case, that are full of oil.

A good motor factor should be able to match the switch, or they're not too expensive from NLM (they supplied an Intermotor part the last time I sourced one).

I replaced the oil pressure switch with one from NLM, now the light goes out with the first compression of the kick.
I would have thought with that small amount of pressure you'd be in trouble before the light came on!
I know oiling isn't a big issue with the engine design and the inclusion may have been more because Japanese bikes had them, in fact it was dropped later to make way for a neutral light (no money to make a new dash panel with an extra light?).
Anyway, it has cured the leak, so it's less like a Triumph now....
