Wiring
I am about to rewire my 74 strada. It came with a damaged five pole ignition switch and fuse box but I could only obtain a new six pole switch to go with the five pole fuse box.
I find no continuity in the switch and am confused as to how best to connect the extra wire to the switch.
Has anyone done this? Any advice would be welcome.
Alternately I will wire it like a british bike but do it really want toggle switches.
Thanks

Re: Wiring
The ignition is turned off by shorting the system so you should find a circuit when the ignition is turned off.
Re: Wiring
Thanks Ralph. I had already worked that out but still there is no continuity. I think the switch is faulty but cannot return it as it was purchased from nlm 3 yrs ago but never used.
I have old old six pole switch which works but the key is not retained in any position so may use this as I do not want to buy another.
I find morini wiring odd.or at least my bike is. It has been tinkered with and had all sorts of colours and semi looms with scotch locks etc. not good.
I really want to keep the switch in circuit as I hate toggle switches and think I will have to wire it cable by cable in Brit bike style then add a few fuses just to be sure.
I would use the original wiring diagram but cannot read it due to colour blindness. It prints out on a blue background and I struggle as a result!

Re: Wiring
I think I have the org book for my 1975 Strada and it shows 5 and 6 pole switches I will look over the week end and see if I can figger what's going on.
Re: Wiring
What do you have on the end of the 6 pole switch numbered terminals or coloured wires
is the switch numbered 1 to 6 with 1 being at the 6 o'clock position then numbered clock wise?

Re: Wiring
I alsop have the original book from the strada I had in 75. It shows the 5 pole wiring diagram. The harglo ok has both five and six pole versions
I have downloaded the diagram from the net -and enlarged it considerably, but it prints the blue background and washes out the wiring colours. Sadly it does not have the index of colours as per the old I've pole version.
Bith switches are numbered 1/6 but the positions are different. Rob gave the most popular schematic with the new switch but it did not work. The old faulty switch is fine. I cannot recall where the pins are but the old switch is spread out whilst the new has the pins grouped in three's each side of the switch.

Re: Wiring
6 Pole according to this
1 at 6 o'clock = red = + live
2 at 20 to = brown = appearers to be output from the voltage regulator
3 at 5 to = green =engine stop earth to 4 to stop engine
4 at 5 passed = blue =earth
5 at 15 nin passed = yellow = power to lights switch on bars
6 at 20 passed = yellow and black = power to pilot lights both 5 and 6 seem to be done by the Gray at position 3 on the 5 pole switch.
So on the 5 pole
1 is live red
2 is output from reg, brown
3 is lights Grey
4 is earth blue
5 is engine stop green
It's a bit indistinct so have a look see what you think.

Re: Wiring
Thanks Ralph. I cannot apply it to the five pole switch as mine is destroyed and I cannot find a replacement. Nlm only sell six pole items!
Re the six pole configuration I will try the layout you advocate.
There is still an issue re the fuse box though as the five and six pole items differ considerably.

Re: Wiring
It's hard to read the diagram so check things out as you go we don't want to fry anything expensive
I will have another look at it in the next few days but let me know how you go on, mine is playing
up a bit so may have to fit a 6 pole to mine at some time.
