Can ignition left on damage components?

Post by morteach »

As the ignition system is independent of the battery, would I be right in saying that if you left the key switched on there is no potential for damage to coils, transducers etc?

Hi,
You are correct. No damage can occur to the ignition system.

YES - in my opinion, this may cause a problem with fuel leaking into your sump, if you have worn needle valves, as your electronic fuel tap will be left open (as I understand it?).

This might be a factor but despite my switch giving a hearty clunk at turn on, it passeth not a drop of fuel! Anyone taken these apart and repaired?

Not me, but I suggest asking in a new thread, if there's no joy when searching for a previous one. (I know some people have changed to two manual ones, though.)

It may simply be clogged up with varnish, rust, and silt.

Mine used to work most of the time, but has become increasingly inadequate for 60mph+ running. That's probably the diaphragm being affected by modern fuel. As far as I know there is no replacement available.

Hello - I stripped and cleaned the electric tap when I got my bike but it only improved slightly from zero flow to very little - again I believe that it's the diaphragm that is the issue - possibly stiffening due to age and again I was informed that they are no longer available -Duncan
