headlight recommendation

Post by Tim »

I have a Sei with no headlight. I'm not too bothered about originality so would consider LED even though I believe they're not strictly legal. Any recommendations? I also need front indicators (although I might just ditch them altogether) if likewise there are any recommendations/advice?

Also on my model, one of the idiot lights is for the indicators but this isn't on any of the wiring diagrams in the blue book - they seem to have a neutral indicator instead. Also it has a mechanical tacho but there only seems to be electronic tachos on the diagrams...

I am running a Concave Cibie on my K1 Sport with a Phillips H4 bulb. Seems reasonable and shows up deer loitering at the roadside, which is always a bit worrisome. I am running @flexi-stem” indicators from Vehicle Wiring Products. Much lighter than the originals- I only had two rear of Morini ones when I got the bike.If I can I will avoid night riding due to the state of the roads.

Any decent 150mm (6") shell will fit. Try to get a good Cibie concave light unit to fit the shell. Otherwise buy a generic 7" shell such as the Lucas flatback type and fit it with a good quality H4 lens such as a Cibie (if you're very lucky!) or a Hella, Bosch or Wipac type. The choice of bulb is the really important thing. My 350's alternator is the early 100w type and can't cope with a 60/55w H4 except at fairly high cruising speeds of over 50mph otherwise the battery is discharging. My alternator has been rewound and the flywheel remagnatised but it simply doesn't produce enough power at lower speeds around town to cope with a 60/55w bulb. My solution is a high quality LED from AGPTEK which just about fits the very shallow original shell. Combined with a Cibie concave unit I now have a superb headlight which consumes less than 30 watts and the battery is always fully charged even at town speeds. If your SEI has the later, more powerful, alternator (120w I believe) then you might get away with a 60/55w H4. The Philip's Racing Vision +200% is the best I've ever used and I have them in my GuzziT5 and RE 650. Paul Goff 's latest Daylighter LED is brilliant in my Benelli 250 but it won't fit the original Morini shell, it's about 5mm too long. Don't buy cheapo LEDs on the Internet as most of them are rubbish. The AGPTEK ones were recommended on a car magazine comparison test and I got a pair for less than £30. I've not been disappointed, they're very good and exactly the sane size as an H4. There are also 35/35w Halogens from Philip's (+30% Motovision)and Osram (+90% Nightracer) which labelled HS1 instead of H4 but will fit an H4 light unit if you file about .5mm off each side of the top tang. I've used them previously and the Osram in particular is very good but not as good as the AGPTEK LED and the Osram is a full 35 watts.

For LED bulbs try Classic Car LEDs.
