Wheel Paint.
Wheel Paint.
Hi everyone.
I know there are opinions about lots of different shades and about not doing a nit picking trailer queen resto, but can anyone tell me if there is any truth in the gold wheels being RAL colour 1036?
I’m not too worried about absolute authenticity as let’s face it, it’s a bit of a weird « gold » anyway, but if this RAL is pretty close it’ll be easy to specify to the painters and at least I’ll not be surprised by the outcome.
Otherwise, has anyone tried any other identifiable gold colour and found it to look good?
Obviously I can go off on a tangent and choose something completely different, but that’s another story.
I’m thinking of Bristol motorcycle powder coat company - anyone tried them?
Cheers.

Re: Wheel Paint.
Mine are a sort of dirty Caramac colour and I have seen some that were a sort of oil seed rape yellow which was a bit bright!
So come the glorious day when I get a seat recovered and a frame stripped and redone I will be interested in the correct gold. And judging by the trend in fuel prices not a day too soon.
I once sprayed some BMW snowflake wheels myself and it was still good after three years.
I shall use bloke round the corner who did some bike bits and most usefully the garden gate.

Re: Wheel Paint.
Paint on black Hammerite every time.
I took my wheels to a powder coaters and he found something close. Do I look bovvered? Nah.
The good news is that the rivet counters hate the fact there is no correct colour...

Re: Wheel Paint.
Central wheel don’t have a RAL number but their colour I went for was ‘bonded gold’
Not a perfect match for the original- a bit more metallic and less matte baby poo, but it’s a convincing effort i would say.
Re: Wheel Paint.
I shall do as suggested then and just ask the bloke to get it in the ballpark as it’ll probably be better than the original colour anyway.
Re: Wheel Paint.
That looks like a pretty good match Tom, I’ll give them a call.
Re: Wheel Paint.
Hi All,
Just found on Soren's website the paint scheme / wheel colours he has listed;
"Gold wheels- RAL1036"
"Grey wheels- RAL 7040"
maybe of some help,
Bruce

Re: Wheel Paint.
Hmmm.
Is Sören à Danish guy?
I seem to remember that’s where I saw those RAL numbers.
If it’s the same guy he lists the bodywork colours and undercoats too.
I looked at a colour sample of Ral 1036 and it looked more brown than anything, which was kind of why I was asking if anybody had tried it.

Re: Wheel Paint.
I just noticed that if you put into google « powder coat paint colour bonded gold » Pearl Gold Ral 1036 comes up.
So Tom’s wheel colour must be pretty much the same as Soren’s recommendation.
Yes, I know nobody cares, just saying . . . .
