350 Valve collets
Ive been sold some "Morini" valves (on the right in the photo)that just have a groove round them, rather than a relieved narrower diameter section of stem (left hand side), as per the later(?) collets, and the collets that came out of the engine wont retain these valves.
I know the collet design changed over the years, is the grooved version, a=n early Morini 350 maybe? Is the external angle the same ie can I use the spring retainer caps I have?
Before you suggest it, two engineers Ive asked have said its impossible to grind through the hardened stem to alter it,not could they guarantee to even mount the valve securely enough, without damaging it
Re: 350 Valve collets
Hi Simon
The later valves will need later collets and indeed the later style caps.
The grooved ones were the early type. I don't remember when they changed but I do remember doing engines in the 80s and they had changed by then.
I would replace the collets when replacing valves.

Cheers Mark, these 'long groove' valves were in a very early 500 motor, 1980ish
