Does anyone have a picture of how the air filter box mounts? My 1977 strada came with some dodgy after-maket filters that rattled annoyingly against the cylinder heads. I splashed out and bought an airbox from nlm but I can't get it to fit. I assume the air intake part points forward?
I'm beginning to suspect that the engine may not be the original and am wondering if this could be why I can't get the airbox to fit. The engines has the letter X stamped on it and looking at the Dutch owners club website this seems to indicate that it's from a Kanguro. It also has a mechanical rev counter (picture attached), I can't find any pictures of a3 1/2 fitted with one of these (but the Kanguro has a mechanical drive). The gear change is right foot which I believe is correct but the the pegs are slightly setback with a jointed gear linkage similar to a sport.
thanks
Bob

Re: air filters / what engine do I have?
Worry ye not on the rev counter front my 82 K350 has a mechanical rev counter.I think they went through a phase of using an electronic one.I make sure my drive is clean and lubricated.Don't know if spare bits are easy to get.
The air filter sits with the intake pointing rearwards. The forward underside should have a load of writing on e.g MM50 this faces towards the transducers.
Two intake rubbers should connect the carbs to the undeside of the air filter housing.
All better seen in a picture ,which i do not have to hand. There is an image on p45 of the parts catalogue which may be found on the members page or at http://www.habukt.de/morini/list.html

OK, got it fitted, not sure how good the seal is between the air box and the elbows though.
Would be interested if the hear if anyone has more details on mechanical rev counters on 1977 bikes. The rev counter doesn't match the speedo which is also making me wonder if its correct for the bike.

A 1977 should have electronic tacho. The mechanical came later. Does it matter?

Thanks Mickymoto, nope it does't matter to me just interested to find out what I've got. The instruments don't match and at some point it would be good to do something about this but it's not urgent. The bike runs and rides great so I'm happy with it.

Re: air filters / what engine do I have?
I believe (and will almost certainly be corrected!) that the later engines developed less power. I think 35hp is the figure quoted. Do the cylinders have Gilardoni cast into them? See pic below of my 1990 Kanguro which has the Gilardoni cast into the barrels and the 500 from 1981 which doesn't.
Looking at your engine it appears to be a later engine as it has black paint on the case and the rocker covers.
Does anybody know the differences between the earlier Strada and later engines?

Re: air filters / what engine do I have?
Yes it does have Gilardoni cast into the barrels. The more I find out the more it looks as though it is a Kanguro engine or one from a later bike. Thanks for you help.
