Front Brake Brakelight switch?

Just bought a 1974 3 1/2 Sport, but had not received it yet. I need the get a rear brake cable with brakelight switch for Tarozzi rear sets, which I can get from NLM, however I have read the front brake does not have it's own switch. Does anyone know of an aftermarket front brake switch?

NLM sell a switch that fits into the hydraulic line up by the master cylinder. Goes in very neatly then just a matter of splicing in a cable to the brake light circuit. Wasn't a silly amount of money as I recall and fitted easily. Get some sort of rubber cover for the connectors to tidy up - local electrical factors should have something - also needed for the in line cable switch for the Tarozzi's.

WRONG, go to the back of the class

1974 bike should be drum braked

I gave up on Venhill cables (who supply NLM) after having to return no less than three incorrectly made clutch cables and I now make my own.

You can use the same inline switch that the rear cable uses. I buy mine from a stall at the Kempton autojumbles, but you can get them online from Carrot Cycles.

Thanks for your replies. Stuart from NLM says they can supply a mico swtich activated from the lever, which "may" require some drilling.

If you have the correct lever for your drum brake sport, there will be a provision for a brake light switch incorporated on the lever bracket. There is a tab which drops down below the lever bracket. This tab has a hole in which the brake switch is retained. The switch has a little plunger that is pushed in by a threaded adjuster under the brake lever when the brake lever is at rest. When the brake lever is pulled, the plunger releases and the switch activates the brake light. These were used on many machines, and are still available as an Aprillia/Piaggio/Vespa/Gilera/Derbi spare. Part number 580953, and any dealer of the aforementioned brands should be able to get it for you, or any scooter shop. Here is one place:

Note they use a proprietary part number, but if you order from them you will get the Aprillia part number as listed above.

Sorry should have been more specific. I have bought a front brake cable with a light switch in it and wonder if anyone could suggest here to wire it in? as on my 75 strada the rear brake light comes on about a millimeter before the wheel locks and is little use under normal circumstances!

My experience with the switch on the NLM rear brake cable is that it takes a bit of force to activate the switch, much more than the micro switch I have installed in the front. When I installed the front switch, I went and found the wiring for the rear switch, and simply spliced into it with connectors.
