Rear shocks

I have noticed a leak from one of my rear shocks.

I believe that the shocks are the OE Marzocchi items - red collar at the bottom end and believe that they are re buildable.

Can anyone confirm this, and if they are re buildable does anyone stock rebuild kits, or does anyone know of equivalent seals that will do the job?

If they are rebuildable and seals are available would also need to know what oil to re fill them with, and how much.

Appreciate this is probably a long shot, but would appreciate any advice / help.

I had a dig around on this forum and the wider web, there is a guy called Ugo Zanardi at https://www.suspensionzana.com/index.ph ... Itemid=114 who seems to have a good reputation, so I have fired him and emai.

He will sort you out. The kit is good and did not take too long to arrive, considering. I should have ordered two sets as I have some others on my shelf.

Yes, he seems to respond very quickly to emails.

Just sent him a couple of pics of my shocks earlier today.

I assume that he does not read English as I have used Google Translate to compile my message in English and then convert to Italian - I did ask if he could respond in English but his replies are in Italian.

How much oil in each shock by the way? Guess light fork oil would do to refil - I am only about 12 stone so light oil should be OK I think.

Recently rebuilt a pair of Marzocchi AG Strada’s for my 500 Sport. I used the kit from Suspensionzana which was great and a reasonable price. I had issues with translation but all arrived safely after about 3 weeks or so.

There is a manual in the club Members' area. It will give you details on how to dismantle and rebuild the shocks and the quantity of oil required.

Yes, I’ve rebuilt quite a few of these now.

I wrote an article in ATG 381 (December 2022) which gives a step by step guide, worth digging that one out if you have it. If you don't then I have just created an extract of the article from ATG and put it into the members area at the below location:

Ugo Zanardini at suspensionzana is the guy to use for rebuild kits.

There are various differences in the dampers fitted to morinis over the years, primarily in the top cap and seal type and the diameter of the damper rod. Zanardini can provide both types but worth stripping and measuring first to know what you need.

Oil quantity is listed in the marzocchi manual in the members area but 70ml of 5 weight works well for me.

I recommend a good fitting crows foot (30 or 32mm normally depending on top nut type) for undoing and doing up the top nuts. they are soft and not very deep so decent engagement across more than 2 flats is needed. I bought a cheap set similar to the one in the link below for the job and I use it a surprising amount for all sorts of things.

Looks like mine are the later ones (Euro 74) as they have the deeper nut, the damper rods measure 9.94mm diameter, so guess you would call them 10mm damper rods.

I am waiting to hear back from Ugo, for some reason he has not responded to my last email I sent a couple of days ago.

Everything looks straightforward enough re dismantling / rebuilding, but I must get hold of one of those crowsfeet spanners, and of course the seal kit from Ugo.
