Lafranconi right hand silencer
I have a very early Strada that is all up and running. Just having the tank and side panels repainted to the original blue. Trying to keep it as original as possible and not restore it. Currently has repro twinseam silencers. I have 2 useable original left side ones but no right side. Happy to buy or swap if anyone has anything. Thanks Ian

Re: Lafranconi right hand silencer
Ian, the silencers are the same both sides, it's the mounting brackets that are handed. So if you can find a R/H hanger bracket you're in business. I 'might' have one but will need to check as I know I've sold a few. They pop up for sale here and on ebay too, I'm sure there were repros in stainless once as well, maybe Mdina have them?

They’re handed, Steve, if for no other reason than the lafranconi logo would be upside down
To complicate things further, there are (at least) two different lafranconi logos, if matching left and right is important to you.

Mine are both the simpler of the two designs but either would do. Hard to look at both sides at once!
Re: Lafranconi right hand silencer
What happened to all the right sided ones? Sharper steering to the right? I also have two left ones in stock

No idea, had been replaced before I got the bike. I assume rusted out!
Re: Lafranconi right hand silencer
I don´t know the reason, but the right one seems to be allways the first to give up, although it shoulde be better greased by the chain

Re: Lafranconi right hand silencer
No grease on the inside! I suspect it is because the right exhaust is 45cm longer than the left and will be much cooler at the end of the silencer. Therefore a greater chance of corrosive liquids condensing there. Particularly if the bike does a lot of short runs.
Re: Lafranconi right hand silencer
That may be true!
I habe doblefolded 350 Lafranconis, original ones not aftermarked since about 20 years and more than 100.000 km on my 501. And they are still ok, Not beautiful but still ok, althoug the habe already been old, when mounten. No short runs AT all

Re: Lafranconi right hand silencer
When storing the bike for winter I allwas give it a blast of WD40 and seal the silencers with an oily rag.
Re: Lafranconi right hand silencer
I remember a guy in the Dutch club who let the old engine-oil run through the exhausts when doing an oil change so a layer of oil got on the inside, he never had rusted pipes, not even the right one
