Possible disc replacements
Re: Possible disc replacements
I saw those discs at NLM and they are very nice indeed, though at about £150 each they should be nice! I'm not sure if they still have them however, when I was last there they had none and they showed me some fresh ones they have, very similar to the Morini originals and still over £100 plus VAT. I wasn't over impressed with the finish, the one I looked at was very rough around the circumference.
I will measure up a Triumph disc and let you know if it is close to the Morini item. Most Triumph discs are 4-hole for the spoked wheels. They did do 6-hole discs for the cast wheels fitted to some of the late model T140s. Needless to say, they are less common, though you can get them without too much trouble. Typical ebay price is £50 for a 4-hole disc and £75 for a 6-hole disc. Holes are expensive!

Yes, same master after a seal service. New braided hose and new disc.Steve Brown wrote:This looks like a good replacement! You say it gives better feel etc, is that with the standard master cylinder still in place?

Re: Possible disc replacements
I've just spoken to Rob at NLM and they have none of those tasty drilled discs left, and no immediate plans to re-stock. I'm now number 1 on the waiting list for when they do!

Re: Possible disc replacements
Hi Alan, did exactly as you said and contacted Dean. Result is three good discs on my 500 now. The cost per disc is £60 + p&p. Mine did get a bit lost in the Christmas post but that is hardly the fault of Disc Doctors. They can/do straighten as well as regrind discs, they come back all nice and fresh and with the inner parts powder coated. Well worth looking into!
Thanks Alan!

Hello Steve, was the £60.00 charge to refurbish your old discs, or replace them?
Regards Pete.

Re: Possible disc replacements
Hi Pete, that is to refurbish them. Includes straightening if needed and regrinding. Apparently they blast them clean, powder coat then regrind them. The mounting face is of course left clean and the whole job looks good to me. Feel right on my quick test so far, they were very warped!acemorini wrote:Hello Steve, was the £60.00 charge to refurbish your old discs, or replace them?

Hello Steve, thank you I will look into getting some of mine done in the new year.

Re: Possible disc replacements
I am quite certain some Italian bike used the same 7 spoke Grimeca wheels with brembo cast iron discs (pprobably some smaller 500 or 350 Laverda), similar to what Guzzi used. The cast iron discs rust, but they last almost forever and work really well (better than most stainless discs). My firend uses such discs for racing (with stock Grimeca calipers), and they are quite good. It is likely the 350 Pantah used something like that too.

Hello Folks,
He makes the floating ones too, he's making one for me right now, having to modify the buttons as they just touch the disc pad, I can report back when I get it if anyone needs the info. I do know he's busier than a very busy person who is busy, so if you need anything done best get it to him ASAP.

Re: Possible disc replacements
Yes Steve, same master cylinder but I am about to strip and refit new seals into the caliper because I think it could be further improved.

Re: Possible disc replacements
Hello Alan,
Am having disc problems and NLM are at present unable to supply floating discs.
Saw your post where you said that you were getting a floating disc from 'thediscdoctor'. Was the clearance problem with the buttons/pad resolved OK? And what do you think of the result? I am having severe trouble with what feels like warped discs.
Also, cost?!!!!
Thanks,
Richard

Re: Possible disc replacements
Hi Richard,
The floating disc is lovely, and works very well. No problem with the clearances.
Dean is very busy, you have to keep on at him sometimes, it took a while to get my disc, but it was worth the wait.
I think it was around £137, but that could well have gone up?.

Re: Possible disc replacements
Thanks, but I really think that I would be better off with floating discs which might counter any small errors in the hubs.hendre wrote:Thersby wheel repair does very nice fixed discs @ 125 GBP a piece
