Fuel tap for 250

Post by lawman »

Hi everyone,

I know that this is the 350 forum but I have a 1980 250 2C and was after some advice as I need a new fuel tap for the bike. It is the last piece of the jigsaw to make the bike roadworthy.

The one that is on the bike is not standard and no matter what I do it not only leaks fuel but it pours out.

Will the 350 fuel tap and seals fit my 250? Do they have the same fuel tank? Do I need to find a 250 fuel tap? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Frank

Definitely a different (smaller capacity tank). I've had to put two new taps on my '250'. They were both were supplied by NLM at different times and don't match. They work and don't leak though which is all that bothers me. I'm guessing the 350 tank has larger diameter threaded bits for the taps to screw on to but I'm not sure. Give North Leicester a ring - they will know.

Thanks 72 degrees,

I have sent NLM an email and am waiting for them to get back to me. I thought that the fuel tap would be the same as the 350 but as you say as long as it works and gets me on the road then that is all that matters.

As I recall, the 350 tank has 16mm diameter fuel tap spigots with 1mm pitch threads and the 250 has 12mm spigots with 1mm pitch threads.

Do your own checks!

If you hunt around, you can find something that uses the same thread and has the pipe exit in a convenient direction. For example, I've used Yamaha Majesty taps on a 350. They were less than £10 each for NOS and were all metal.

Frank, rather than wait for an email from NLM, give Rob in the spares department a phone call.
"I'll have a V please, Bob."

I spoke to Stuart last night and ordered a new fuel tap but then realised that I need 2.

I will have to call again tonight.
