Speedo Cable
Speedo Cable
My speedo needle wobbles when I am riding my bike . So i undid the cable and put a helthy dose of WD 40 on the inner cable. Went for a ride last night and the needle still wobbles. Is this normal ? Would a new cable give me a smoother moving speedo needle?
Re: Speedo Cable
Well for starters, WD40 isn't a lubricant, it's mostly a solvent, so you've just washed a load of lubrication out.
Try driving your speedo with a cordless screwdriver and see what it's like then.
Veglias have a bit of a reputation for wobbly needles. A couple of drops of 2 stroke oil on the spindle bearings is meant to damp them down, but means removing the bezel.

Re: Speedo Cable
Veglia instruments aren't known as Vague Liars for nothing... The speedos on my 3 1/2 Sport and Strada both read consistently 8mph fast. It's all part of the character...

Re: Speedo Cable
Not sure if I've tried it with the Mornini, but back in the day with older Jap bikes that did this (CB750SOHC, GT250, etc) I would ensure there was plenty of grease worked into the cable (you have to be careful near the top apparently though). This would damp down things extremely well.
