Hi All
So I have converted the electrics on my mk1 camel to 12volts and fitted a Sachse ignition system.
However, it is clear that the alternator is not powerful enough to power the ignition system and all the lights at the same time!
It is fine for daytime riding but I am afraid that I will run out of sparks fairly quickly in the dark.
Is there any method of uprating the alternator to give a higher wattage?
I know sachse used to do a 300w alternator but I believe this was a replacement for the Kokusan ignition which would not fit my bike anyway.
The ignition coil on the alternator is now redundant and is a bit of a waste of space and I am wondering if there is a good alternator specialist out there who might be able to take the old stator and rewire / rework it so that it produces more wattage?

There's a reason I stick to stock ignition.

Remagnetising the rotor is always a good step. I re-did mine before this years track day and I think it gave me another 200rpm on the top end.

Hi, are you using the original Morini (Ducati Electronica) alternator to charge a battery with a Sachse ignition system receiving power form the battery or is it a complete Sachse system: alternator and ignition?
If you're using the original alternator have you wired the 5 charging coils together or simply using the 3 coils that are already linked?
I converted a Camel to 12v in 1993 mainly for another ignition system that required a 12v supply and used the 3 linked coils to provide the charging and had no problems running with the lights on all the time whilst touring in Europe for 5 weeks.

Later I did try to find someone to rewire/rewind the stator using all 6 coils for charging the battery, but at the time nobody (tried 4 specialists) on receiving my alternator was willing to change it unless I gave them the values: warranty was the usual reason. One having spun it on a test rig to measure the output said although it was an odd concept (ignition/6V DC/12V AC systems being supplied) but it produced very good power and had the potential to give much more if all 6 were wired together, yet was unwilling to do it even when I said I would take the risk and not expect any warranty.
Hopefully you will find someone to rewire/rewind the alternator.
