Re: New to me mk1 Camel in OZ.

Tomorrow I will pay for the plates and she will be 'On the road'
Whoo Hoo !
Turned out the guy that checked it over worked on Morini`s when they were imported. Small world.

It's running good, but need to fix a oil leak from kick starter shaft.

Encouraging result then if it runs nicely already. The kickstart has a simple O ring on the shaft to seal it. The code is OR123 according to my book. Best you read up on the assembly of the kickstart spring and ratchet, if you haven't already, it's easy enough once you know how. The best way is to watch the Paul Compton video on youtube.

Re: New to me mk1 Camel in OZ.
To replace kick start O ring it looks like cover off. I hope I dont have to split the clutch basket off the primary. Also hoping I can slide it back on without harming the other seals.
Some pics from yesterday putting some kms on it before I go into the real bush.

The O-ring for the kickstartershaft is a 18/2,5 mm
Re: New to me mk1 Camel in OZ.
Thanks Steve and Norbert.
Do you think I can reuse the side cover gasket ? Otherwise I will have to get one from Mdina. Also running around town and freeway riding has shown today, that the seal around the camshaft, also in that side cover, is leaking. I wonder if I can replace the pickup assembly by marking it and replacing it to the mark. I don't have a timing light.
Cheers.

Re: New to me mk1 Camel in OZ.
If you are careful y with some luck you will keep the gasket of the primary cover in order and can reuse it. I prefer to give it a smal amount of silico only en the side to the crankcase. That way it stays stick to the crankcase when you dismantle ist again.
The seal/simmering for the camshaft on the left side is 13-26-5.
You should get along with a mark for the pickuo, although for a correct timng you´ll need a stroboscop lamp
good luck!

Re: New to me mk1 Camel in OZ.
As Norbert says, plus with the primary cover you can do it with the clutch basket still attached to the drive gear. It's still maybe worth separating though and replacing the cheap seal while you're in there-it could be quite old by now and you'd be miffed if it starts leaking shortly after

Re: New to me mk1 Camel in OZ.
And don´t forget to give some Hylomar or other silicon that will not become hard between the shaft and the distance tube! That´s where normaly the oil comes out, more than through the seals
The smaler seal in the clutch basket is 26-37-7
The big one in the primary cover is 60-75-8
And don´t loose your pacience with the kickstart mecanism. Have a look at Pauls video!

All I need now is a vid on how to set up timing. Not Static, I have that, but with a light strobe.
Cheers.

Re: New to me mk1 Camel in OZ.
I read earlier that you'd downloaded the blue book? The timing procedure is in there. It's dead simple too. You do need to rev the engine to around 6k rpm as per the instructions, this is to check the full advance. Not seen a video of that but there may well be one on u toob.rossguzzi wrote:All I need now is a vid on how to set up timing. Not Static, I have that, but with a light strobe.

Re: New to me mk1 Camel in OZ.
My apologies, yes I do have that and re read it last night. All good.
I'm going to order a gasket and that funny little seal found in the nut. The rest of the seals I can source here. When I get them I will perform the operation. A mate has a strobe light so he will help me with the timing too.
Getting there !

Re: New to me mk1 Camel in OZ.
Well, I have a small problem.
Seems the headlight has stopped working. First I thought it was a blown fuse. But I mistook the park light as a fuse. I replaced the park light and that now works but the headlight high or low dosnt. Seems there is no power to the bulb.
Now I can fix most things, but electrics are my weakness.
I have checked and cleaned all connections and earths. They were all looking quite good and original. We have no salt on our roads in winter so corrosion is very minor.
Could it be the 12v coil has given up ? How would I check that ?
All other lights and indicators work.
