Key off, engine continues to run. Normal?

Subject line says it all. While I'm getting the 500 sorted without much difficulty, and it runs fine - I'm only able to kill the engine with the handlebar switch. Turning off the key does nothing, it continues to run.
Is this normal behavior?

Nope, not normal behaviour!
Key off the green wire from the switch should have continuity with earth. Unplug the green wire from the switch at the fusebox and check this. If it doesn’t Check that the switch earth is good. If it is then you have a faulty switch. If the earth is bad that could be your problem.
note- There should be a diode inline to prevent 12v being put on the green wire in the event of a switch failure. If this happens you will kill your transducers. And if the switch isn’t earthing the green properly then there is a possibility it could also send 12V the wrong way so definitely worth checking the diode between the switch and the fusebox on the green wire is present

Not normal
Funnily enough my key works fine, it's the kill switch that doesn't work!
