Damaged crankcase/gearbox

I'm rebuilding a barn find 500, and have a 6 speed 507 motor for it as the original is corrosion damaged. I took the left engine cover and clutch off to get it powder coated with the frame etc, and found damage behind the large primary drive gear. What looked like a crack around the bearing housing for the RH roller bearing for the countershaft in fact turned out to be a circular piece of casing broken off. The roller had been driven out against the housing - I knew the engine had had gear selection problems, so no complaints. Anyone seen this before? Would epoxy then high strength bearing retaining fluid be viable? I have a very expert welding contact who did a small repair on my 3 1/2 crankcase - but the material is very high in gas content from the casting method. Or does anyone have spare 350/500 cases for the plain main type engine? I'd like to salvage it if possible
