Rear light wiring??
Rear light wiring??
So the brake light works fine, the side lights work fine and the headlight works fine but the tail light only works with side lights & not with the headlight, which is rather odd. Any ideas what I should start looking at?

Re: Rear light wiring??
Hi,
A question. When the taillight goes out, does the pilot light in the headlamp also go out?
If it does then the fault is likely to be within the handlebar switch - the off/pilot/headlamp one.
ie, when the switch is moved from pilot to full headlamp, it is disconnecting the power from the pilot/tail circuit.
If it is just the tail lamp, then the fault must be in the wiring/ connections. Eg. Are the 3 wires on the tail light unit connected correctly?
Hope this helps,
George

Re: Rear light wiring??
Have you got the original ignition switch? Can you turn it one more turn. Reason I ask is that I fitted a non standard one to replace a faulty original and there is an extra position.
The first turn activates all circuits except tail. Second position - full lighting. A bit of a nuisance but am used to it.

Thanks, I'll take a bit more of a look and report back later.
Re: Rear light wiring??
Well that was pretty simple, John had it in one, the ignition switch has a second location & all lighting works, amazing, now to get to work on the odometer trip reset....
Re: Rear light wiring??
Tim, yes trip meter sorted, disconnected Speedo drive and lights, then top nut around trip meter knob so I could remove clocks & cable in one piece, checked trip reset actually worked & then oiled & wiggled cable quite a bit as it kind of gets frozen in one position then refitted - the knob works anti clockwise & requires a decent force to turn it now but it does work
