Thanks for the advice guys, I have managed to secure a Uk supplier for the plug caps, NGK SDO1F, at a reasonable price. Once I have replaced the leads and caps we will see if there is an improvement. I have previously had the tank cleaned and relined, carbs sonically cleaned, new float needles etc so I have the basis of a good set up. John P gave me some carburettor tuning tips first published in ATG back in 1980, very useful, a definite improvement on the blue book. Hopefully with a little trial and error I will achieve an improved set up, thanks again, regards Paul.

I recently bought some 5k ohm caps from my local motorcycle shop, 4 quid each.

Please everybody, try and use your local bike shop before they all pack up!

Good advice, unfortunately many have disappeared whether that be due to retirement or in many cases passed on.
Back in the day you would visit your local bike shop and buy new old stock marked up with a pre- decimal price. Usually the shops were very small with every inch of floor, wall and ceiling space taken up with stock. What’s more the proprietor knew where everything was.
I found such a place last year when I had my tank relined, no computerised till, just a hand written receipt and the feeling that you had stepped back in time.
