I'm having problems with my starter . At first the shoes were spinning inside the drum. I roughed up the shoes and drum with emery paper, I also tightened the chain adjuster, and the started worked a few times properly . Now all I get is a buzzing sound from the relay when I hit the starter button. Could it be that the chain is too tight?

Re: Starter Issue
Have you checked the oil level in the starter motor gearbox. How long ago was the bronze gear last inspected?
Re: Starter Issue
I have even known the motor to stick after nipping up the case. I needed to loosen then wiggle the case . However other favourites include strip clean and rebuild the motor and gearbox, new decent battery.
