Ref the Oil seal for crankshaft big end oil supply as shown in 500 parts book pages 12 and 13
as item 38 .
Confirmation please which way the open side should face?

Hi, I don't have the 500 parts book, but if you are referring to the seal hat fits into the clutch case, then it should be installed with the spring side into the case, ie. You shouldn't be able to see the spring once installed.

I suspect that's the one being referred to. It threw me for a while looking at the part book diagram and having forgotten how tricky it was to remove. Thank you George, thanks 72 degrees,
Happy with the replies , the seal fits snuggly with the dished washer and conforms to the open side to oil rule.
However not a part of the engine to make any assumptions . It is a MK3 Camel I was hoping to have ready for the May rally
One of those might still happen?
