Hi, for some reason my speedo drive has failed, i took the wheel off and the gear that is pushed onto the wheel is stripped of its teeth whilst the little drive inside the snail shell seems to be both free moving and undamaged?
My questions are:
Are they all the same?
Where do I get one from?
How do I fit it or can i be pointed in the direction of someone more capable?
I am sure i saw some electronic copy clocks on a bike somewhere would this be an option as my clocks are hideous?
I am near Heathrow
Thanks
Kevin

May be the same as the later 31/2. The earlier wire wheel ones are different... NLM had some, I believe. There is a special tool to remove the ring on the wheel. I have only ever seen one of these pullers.
I think what happens is that people do not remove the worm gear before removing and replacing the wheel... 14mm spanner required.

I think all the alloy wheel speedo drive gears are the same, as are the wheels themselves (down to the 125), all being 1.85" x 18".
The speedo drive gear is very hard to find. At one time some people were removing the gear to change the wheel bearings and gears were getting broken.
With your gear, we don't know the history. Both the drive gear and the worm may have been damaged in the past and just the worm replaced to get things working.
If a new gear isn't available, the next best thing would be a scrap wheel to recover one from. Wheels, even new ones, are relatively easy to find, albeit at a price.
There's no need to take the speedo worm out of the housing to remove the wheel.

Re: 500/6 Speedo ring gear
When my worm wore out, it was worn on one side! When I put the wheel in it took a fiddle to get it in the Speedo drive. When I removed the worm, there was a different feel to the fitting. Maybe because the worm was worn...
NLM had some later worms, second hand. There is also this in NL...

Thanks for the advice, I have cleaned it all up and it seems very difficult to remove without risk of damage so I may look out for a second hand wheel, maybe its a sign that now would be a good time to tidy the whole bike up!

Re: 500/6 Speedo ring gear
Gutted....
OK its been a long time but finally have the ring gear off, ready to fit the one I bought months ago to fit, trouble is, it doesn't....
Wheel hub dia is 47mm
Inside of ring gear is 44mm
Ring gear is stamped Veglia - 50 - 0803 - 002
Any advice? is it the right one, does anyone have the right one, does anyone have a spare wheel or should I just but another Morini and swop the wheel over as the mood takes me.....
Unhappily
