Kick starter gear and sprocket help

Post by Toki »

Hi,

First time poster and doing so from an iPhone, please forgive any ignorant questions and brevity.

I recently sheared my kickstarter gear ( approx 4 teeth ), I am wondering if others have had this problem, have any advice, or information where to get spares. If anyone has a spare I'd be happy to purchase or do a part swap.

Sprockets: are the front and rear sprocket on the 500 replaceable with any new, easily available, replacement? Are they direct swaps with any other Italian twins of their time, ( I assume this may have been done to cut cost at the time )?

Lastly I am located in Texas for anyone stateside, and have a number of parts available for part swapping ( mostly everything not directly attached to the engine ). I also have a spare starter motor and clutch, however only 2 of the 3 legs made it.

Thanks,
Duran

If you are in the U.S. then try Hermie at Herdan Corp.

http://www.herdan.com/

If no joy there then TLM in the UK. You can google them yourself easily.

You should get quite good at bump starting it in the meantime. :lol:

Ron,

Thanks for the help. Called Herdan and they had a spare, so I got that coming.

With regards to the sprockets, others may already know this, but the 501 will work as a replacement, but its thinner (I imagine ~ 520). The rear sprocket is interchangable with some ducati replacments, just working on finding out which ones.

Thanks again,
Duran

The 'Blue Book' isn't all that clear on how to set up the kickstart assembly.

This might help;
