I bought a Morini from them once, and being diplomatic, Id want to inspect them closely before handing over any money.

Spanish-market Morinis (which I think these are) generally had a tough life, ridden and neglected till they broke, with little knowhow in the country to keep them running

Are there any particular clues to suggest they may be Spanish?

I did spot a front tyre on back-to-front, but I don't think that counts.

Spanish bikes generally dont have an engine-number but then neither did Italian market bikes. The Best telltale is a stuck-on registration no. graphic on both sides of the front mudguard starting with two letters ie PM for (Palma Mallorca,) MA (Madrid) BA (Barcalona) or ZA (Zaragoza) that kind of thing. That, caked on dust and horrific bodging

This numbers on the Front mudgard were the old matriculation numbers, that decades ago wenn to the plates we all have on the back of the bikes

As far as I know there only have been numbers on the motor for oficial export Morinis. That means that all the other morinis that have found their way from Italy to the rest of Europe not beeing exported by the company itself don´t have matching numbers because their motors never have been stemped (hundreds in Germany ).

During the Franco times Morinis was one of the rare foreign motocycle companies that could import to Spain, such as Guzzis o Ducatis (build even in license as Ducati MotoTrans for example). There has been an oficial importer in Barcelona (Ian has the very rest of their stock today).
There have been times that the normal spanish moto mecanics didn´t have much idea of a 4 stroke motor as all their nacional bikes except some Sanglas were 2 stroke models. Later, when japaneses an other bikes entered most of the Morinis in Spain have been forgotten in the last corner of the sheds. And 20 years later nobody knew what to do when sparks were missing ...That´s the reason for all the spanish no-runners on the market! That has changed about 20 years ago, but still is the reason why that much Morinis entered in Britain during the last 10-15 years, and of course because Agusti apeared like an exporter of clasic bikes some years ago. Buying a second- or seventh hand 40 year old bike always is a kind of lottery if you don´t know their history and even then ... In Spain as in every country there are people who take care of their bikes and others only interested in high revs whithout thinking in changing the oil
I wonder how long it will take that all the beautiful vertical shaft Ducati Monos from MotoTrans will be sold out in Spain beeing much more cost-effective than the italian ones ... (bueno, there are some parts that don´t have the italian quality because of missing adequate material in Spain during that times)
