Starting a 500

Post by Emmohaswheelsagain »

Hi keith,

I only used the starter motor if I was two up in traffic with no other option. I'm sure many more practical owners managed to over come the problems experience with theirs but the kick start was the only sure start method of firing the bike into life. Did you receive the documents I sent you? The owners manual is for a 5 speed 500 (79 model). Hope it helps.

I should think most of us 500 owners have the starter motor in the spares box under the workbench where it belongs

My bike was 18months old when I bought it and the starter never managed to do it's job back then.
Leave it off and put a smaller battery in and increase the power to weight ratio no end.

did you get sorted for the starter motor? If not I have one of the 501 type that mount in front of the motor, along with all the gubbin's and I also have the chain driven type that sit under the alternator case.
PM me off line if you are interested.
