Sidestand................

I am wondering, if I have the right sidestand for the bike?

It's very fiddly to kick down and it leans over too far I think?

Are they all like that?

Tim

No. Or at least they weren't originally. What can happen is the stand itself bends, or the frame tube twists where the stand bracket is welded. Usually because people sit on them while the bike is parked or spend ages kickstarting a duff bike while it's on the stand.

Wot Steve said!

The side stand can be a bit tricky to push down as there is not much exposed metal to rest your toe or foot on. Still, once the stand is down the bike should seem stable with no cause for concern. (See attached photos).

If a previous owner was in the habit of starting the bike on the side stand (Big No-No!) then the bottom frame rail may have twisted, kicking the stand outwards. In a worst case scenario the stand mounting bracket can crack. Worth checking. It is fixable, but the fix involves a bit of 'Blacksmith Brutality' and some re-painting.

Makes me wince seeing someone sitting astride a bike with it on the stand (sidestand especially) and seeing them kick up a bike, especially if it is a big person and the bike wont start.

I have always taken all my bikes off the stand to kick them up, only exception is sometimes I will leave the centre stand down to kick the bike up before I sit on it.

The Morini having a Lefthand Kicker I just take it off whatever stand I have it on and kick it up before I get on it.

Each to his own I suppose.

I'd better have a closer look!

Mine-probably like most-is of the flick-up variety. I really don’t like using it…😳

What does the stand look like when it is flicked up?

Mine is shown in the attached photo.
