Hello folks,
I was browsing the web looking for a photo of a blue K1 Strada when I came across this picture of a K2 with a fully enclosed chain at auction, has anyone heard of this mod before?, it looks quite professional.

Hi, it was made by Becker in Germany and I think it used MZ rubber tunnels? there was also an oil bath version available for some larger bikes.
Laverda made their own version for the 500/750/1000 which will fit on a Morini.
Peter Furlong in the UK also made similar enclosed final drive cases in fibre glass but with rubber tunnels better suited to 530 chains.
I've also seen Jawa 350 cases adapted for use on Morinis yet the rubber tunnels are narrow like the MZ

PS Norton rotary rubber tunnels/gaiters are still made/available if you wanted to make your own version?

How interesting Ian, I've never heard of that before.
It just so happens I have a pair of MZ rubber tubes in the garage somewhere, hhhmmm, something for the future.
Both my Sports are anything but hard on the chains though, but as I'm a Guzzisti too (sorry, I hope I won't be burnt at the stake?), I like the idea of very low maintenance final drive on the Strada.

For those who aren't keen on the 'enclosed' look (like me), there is another option.
I copied what BSA used to do 50 -60 years ago, with a back to the chainguard that goes below the lower run of the chain. This keeps all the road muck off the chain, yet gives the appearance of an exposed chain from the side of the bike.
I made mine from some 3mm ABS sheet and a couple of strips.
Has made looking after the chain very easy.
As for the MZ option, there were several owners that 'made' MZ tubes and rear cases fit their bikes back in the 1980's and liked them, so that can be done if you can get the relevant parts, but it wasn't for me.
Of course, all you lucky people with K models are OK with your 'double' chainguards must be laughing as your bikes are already "covered"!
