1975 model finish inquiry.

Tossing up weather to tart up my 3 1/2.
Thinking of dry ice blasting the motor in situ. Then polishing up the outer cases.
My question is, from the factory, the left and right outer cases, were they completly polished, or just the very outside face. I've seen both versions.
I probably prefer just the outside only.
Also does anyone know the closest red to use for the tank and side covers ?
Cheers

Hi Ross,
Polished cases - flywheel side just outside face,
Clutch side only ignition trigger and thin clutch cover (the bit with 4 c/s screws) were shiny/polished, but arguably they could have also been described as 'as die cast', ie: shiny but not like a mirror.
Rocker covers also shiny , but everything else was as sand cast.
As for colour, if yours has never been sprayed, your best bet should you want it the same colour is to take a side panel to a decent spray shop and get then to match the inside of it - the bits that don't see sunshine. They didn't have paint codes then, or if they did they were variable.
My bike? '78 model, but I have used a Ford red, paint code 4Z, described in the UK as 'Radiant Red'. Looks about right to me so I'm happy.
Hope this helps,
George

Thanks George. I forgot about the rocker covers.
Got to look into dry blasting after Christmas.

Hi Ross,
Should have added that the rocker covers are a b@%&ard to polish up inside the 'fins' - way too many nooks and crannies to get to unless you have so much time you want to sit with cotton buds and polish them out. Can only recommend polishing the bits you can see and wash out dirt from the awkward bits. As soon as you break the surface 'skin' it becomes a dirt magnet.
Yes, I have the tee shirt for that one!
Regards,
George

It won't be a pristine spruce up, just the tank and side covers are fairly ordinary.
