Hello Folks,
I've had a quick look at my newly obtained wreck, Strada 3 1/2 K model, registered 1983 but likely 1981/2 . There is no engine number, it is an import from Europe. There is no flywheel stator fitted, no wonder the previous owners friends couldn't get it going!, the flywheel is the non electric start type, no drum and no starter motor mechanism inside the casing, although the casing is electric start, painted black along with the rocker covers, but the left side is plain aluminium. It has a black pickup. I wonder if the engine has been replaced?. My question is, is there any way to tell the difference externally between the electric start motor and the earlier non starter motor engine?, apart from the previously mentioned.
Thanks,
Alan.

Re: Strada engine question
Hi,
Differences between electric start and non electric start.
As far as I've ever seen, the only external difference is with the very early motors - rocker covers being the most obvious, or with the flywheel removed, if there are 3 screw heads holding the main bearing in place. Several internal changes though.
Flywheel obviously did change, but who is to say what other 'bolt on' bits have been changed during the last 40-50 years?
Many electric start engines had an oil pressure sender on the front underside of the clutch cover, but memory says not all did. Possibly did from K series onwards? After the K's though there were lots of differences on the Cagiva era bikes.
