Starter shoes

Post by 3potjohn »

I need to know original thickness of the friction material on the later type starter shoes.
Mine have been on many a year and the bike has always started at first press of the button but decided to slip the other day. All the usual things have been checked ( battery is Xtreme600, relay, all terminals cleaned and rebuild motor) It whirrs away rapidly but slips in spite of deglazing and making sure the shoes move freely)
I can otherwise estimate from an image of them.
A squirt of Ambersil Belt dressing on the rotor ring worked wonders for now.

Acquired some shoes . A retaining circlip obligingly snapped at minor provocation. Of course my stock of circlips doesn’t include the correct one. Todays Devon challenge: find some locally.
