Hi,

Does anyone know where I can get a new sump plug for a 1977 3 1/2 strada and what size it is?

Also I have the mag wheels and need new tyres, I am thinking of going for Avon road riders 90 x 90 x 18 front and 110 x 90 x 18 back, should I get tubes fitted with these?

Hello Christine,

Tubes are a must, the wheels are not suitable for tubeless tyres. I only buy Michelin or Continental tubes.

I would go for a 100/90 on the rear, others may disagree.

What size do I order for the inner tube. I have spoken to several tyre places and they do not keep tubes in stock.

You need tubes that fit the tyre size. You can buy them on ebay.

As for the sump plug, try Doug at Mdina Italia. Give him a call, nice guy.

I put a new sump plug on my 81 Strada it's the same as fitted to a Fiat car. I just took my sump plug to a local car parts shop and they had a couple of types in stock a flanged and a flangeless.

I can't remember what Fiat model it was but it's quite a common model from the 70s and 80s.

It's a M22 x 1.5mm thread

Just to add my input, I've used Bridgestone BT45 and 46s on mine and they are absolutely superb. Never the slightest slip in all weathers.
That's on NZ roads anyway so I guess your roads may be the same stuff?

Apparently most roads in the UK are now surfaced with holes, DD.

France, Switzerland and Italy were no better when I visited in June!

I have not been there of late but the major Belgian Roads had some impressive holes which you had to steer around. For me dappled sunlight through tree lined roads are the worst for spotting potholes.
Bridgestones are good, I currently use Avon Roadrider Mk2.

When it's not potholes it's speed bumps that have the white paint worn off so you don't see them until the hit.

Good to meet you at the weekend Christine, if you haven't found a car type sump plug already I will have a usable spare original here somewhere. One advantage of knowing the thread size as supplied above, is that you can also look around for a magnetic replacement too. Also ref the Warks section meetings, I can ask our leader Tom to add you to the whatsapp group, you'll get reminders of the meetings that way.

I find I have several sump plugs in my odds and ends box, all are M22 x 1.25. You could have one, but I suspect p&p would come to more than a new UK one!
