Tarozzi rearsets

Post by fatblokeabroad »

Afternoon all,
My 76 strada and I recently had the privilege of a very close encounter with a very very large dog resulting in a bent exhaust and a snapped left side Tarozzi rear set mount (part No 0000026). I looked on line and a seller near me said one could be ordered in 5-10 days, fair enough thinks I. Four weeks later and it appears that no parts are available in Italy, I contacted Tarozzi directly by e-mail and all are declared un-deliverable due to 'over-full inbox', they do not answer the phone either. All in all this is not good. All the usual suspects in UK seem to be in a similar situation.
I think my only option is to buy a complete set or repair. Is it possible to weld cast aluminium with and degree of strength? The break is quite clean.
I have asked on the parts forum if anybody has the part but I do not hold out much hope.

I suppose you could weld the break and then plate either side?

The guy at discovolante used to stock tarozzi, he might have some spares, although you can buy his business, too...

Definitely possible to weld them. Had a set done for mine years ago. Find a good welder though for obvious safety reasons.

I had to get a footrest welded quite a few years ago. It didn't go very well the footrest kept bending on the weld. I don't know anything about welding so can't say what went wrong maybe the metal got too hot.

Apparently I should have had it Tig welded not arc welded.

I dont think the plate option will work as the break is close to the foot peg mount, I may not get any purchase. I will try and find a specialist MIG/TIG welder close-by. It is very difficult as nobody out here in the sticks is on the internet, its word of mouth only. I am toying with gluing the broken bit, getting it CAD scanned and then CNC milling it from billet alloy. I fear the cost may be out of my reach but it is a possibility.
The latest info from Tarozzi is that they are working on a 'collaboration with a major manufacturer' and have had to suspend all other work (including answering the phone/e-mails apparently). Normal service should resume by the end of May.

This is one of these plates that is mounted with twoo srews (a little one on the axle of the swing arm)?
If so, try Dieter Hoffmann in Germany morinicorse1@aol.com

I don´t know if he has the parts apart, but some years ago he sold complete Tarozzi rearsets

Hi Jenny and Norbert,
I am a regular customer of Officine08.com and have the rearset hanger on back order.
I will give Dieter Hoffmann a message on the off chance he may have some parts gathering dust.
I have found a guy on the Italian Morini club site (https://www.morinispecial.it/79-gini/17 ... i-eng.html) he makes all sorts but I especially like his billet rearsets.

Damn!

I'm in NZ and could usually get parts from the Aussie stockists. Try them, there are quite a few.
