i have a 1978 350 sport.when i check the oil level using the dip stick.do i push the dip stick all the way in ? or to the first O ring on the dipstick handle?.i have a honda and you do not screw the dip stick in to check the oil level !!

Dipstick fully in.

There are (were) two types of dipstick for the 350 - earlier ones with ball bearing mains ran with 2.5 litres of oil, later plain bearing motors ran with 3 litres.

Morini changed to a plain bearing on the timing side around 1976/77. If you take off the alternator stator, then you can see three little bolts around the crank that are used for installing/extracting the plain bearing.

The marks on the dipstick are the Minimum and Maximum permitted oil levels. The correct oil level is between the two. My 77 Sport never seems to use any oil and I run it at the half way point, If your bike uses a little oil, then perhaps err on the higher side.

I seem to remember Stewart at NLM recommending 2.5 litres for all engines since 3 litres can take the oil level above the clutch seal when on the sidestand and if the seal is a little old you can get oil in the clutch. I only use my sidestand at trackdays and I do get a little weep of oil with the engine very hot. The clutch seems quite happy operating slightly 'damp'.
