bent footpegs

Riding my fabulous 350 strada - only just found it has 6 gears!
I have adjusted the footpegs down a bit - tricky on the left - had to put on a jubilee clip to hold the brake pedal down enough, and then had to cut of a bit of the weldedon tag that operates the stop light switch.
On the right alls well except that the gear lever is too low - just operator errror! can be adjusted. Bur the space for my boot is too small between the gear lever and the foot peg. Looks like it is bent forward.
Can I just put on a big lever - scaffold pole? and bend it?
Advice please
Stuart
