Any ideas what the best angle is - assume as level as possible by adjusting on the inlet tube?

upside down is not good, otherwise as level as you can-but they won't be very level, so don't worry. carbs work fairly well at angles.

The Dellorto manual talks about a maximum of 40° out of level. Normaly you won´t reach that. The front carbs tend to be a bit more inclined, maybe because of the position of the filterbox. This happens at least with a 501 in a 350 frame.
