I'me getting to the stage where I can attach the plastic badges to the side panels and tank again, the side panels have pegs that go through the holes in the panel, the tank badges will need to be stuck on somehow.

How best to secure these?, bending slightly or partially melting the sidepanel pegs seems the simplest way though this will make removing them at any stage in the future a bit tricky.

What about the tank badges, looks like there used to be pegs on these at one point but not anymore and in any case the tank is now smooth so it would be pointless having pegs, so can anyone suggest the best way of sticking them on?, I reluctant to use glue unless it can be removed without damaging either the badge or tank paint. I think theres sticky tape type stuff used for attaching car decals but my badges are slightly hollow so the surface area available for tape is miniscule and only around the edges of the raised badge, cant imagine that being very secure for long.

I used the sticky backed pads similar to the ones you fix number plates on with. They are available in different thickness. If it has to be very thin then double sided sticky tape, I know it sounds mickey mouse but it worked for me.

For the side panel pegs use a dremel and a 1 - 1.5 mm drill bit. Shim with washers and secure with those spring clips you find on brake calipers, watchmakers tapered pins or stainless wire.
The tankbadges should be as close in profile to the mating surface as possible, gentle heating with a hair dryer and some judicious bending can help here. Remove tank and lie it on it's side.
Use good quality silicon in the right hollows and use sparingly ,you don't want to be cleaning off any surplus. Locate badge carefully with cling film and then weigh it down with a sandbag, or gaffer tape over the cling film and onto the tank. Leave for 48 hours.
