Paioli forks

No Forum for 250cc 2C, so here goes - changing the fluid in the Paioli front forks on my 250cc 2C model, I discovered grub screws in the bottom of the fork top nuts, so curiosity got the better of me and I unscrewed them and out popped a ball bearing and a spring from each.
Ah, methinks, a pressure relief valve, or is it? And if it is how is it set up?
Have searched around for information on these, but no luck. Can anyone enlighten me?

Hi, these spring/balls are stock for all older Morini forks, had 'm in my Marzocchi on my 3 1/2 '74. I think they are indeed pressure releive valves for extremes. I cleaned 'm and put am back where they belonged, still have to find the bump that will engage 'm though. Driving a speed bump at 100km/h might help ..... :P

Speed bumps at 100kph? Now, why did I not think of that! Your reply re.
balls and springs useful - thank you.
